CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT 1 covers knowledge and display practice skills in civil engineering. The student also exposed in communication skills, group works, work planning, decision making, recommendation and creativity using available facilities.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
CLO01: Design the process of investigation in propose an engineering based project with a clear and concise manner (PLO3)(C5,PO4)
CLO02: Writes documents using engineering report standards in producing preliminary project report based on knowledge and information in civil engineering study.(PLO6)(C2,PO10).
CLO03: Demonstrates skills of self-education and familiarity with appropriate tools in civil engineering based on research topic.(PLO8)(P4,PO12)
SUMMARY

RESEARCH TOPIC

What is research; research characteristics. Types of research; fundamental/basic research, applied research, action research, innovation and invention, research topics related to civil engineering.
2.0
PROJECT SELECTION AND PLANNING

Propose a suitable topic  for the project from the following categories; laboratories practice, civil engineering product/design, academic research/study on product. Selection of concepts/principles/methods suitable for project.
3.0
PROJECT PROPOSAL

Preparation of project proposal, basic content and format writing for project proposal. Conduct presentation of project proposal by group.
4.0
RESEARCH WRITING

Format of writing; Introduction, problem statement, research objectives, research limitation/project scope, importance of study. Literature review. Research methodology; research design, data collection, conduct questionnaire, method of laboratory works. Data analysis; organise presentation of the raw data, methods of data presentation. Derive the conclusions to answer the research objectives, recommendation for future research.

PRODUCING THE PRELIMINARY PROJECT REPORT

Produce the first project report by gathering all the related information using standard format. Produce the printed project report consisting of Chapter 1, 2 and 3. Conduct presentation of project proposal by group.

DCC6203: CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT 2

INSTRUCTIONAL DURATION: 15 WEEKS

PRE REQUISITE:  DCC5191: CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT 1

 CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT 2 covers knowledge and skills in civil engineering practices. The student also exposed in communication skills, group works, work planning, decision making, recommendation and gain creativity by using related facilities to a design of a system. This course also covers conducting experiments in the laboratory/workshop, field works, academic researches, designing product or method of civil engineering related fields. The student will learn the method to analyze data, prepare presentation and report writing.

 COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to;
1. solve the research question by organizing and/or collectingdata from laboratory experiment, field works, industries, government agencies or communities based on research methodology.(C4,PLO2)
2. organize the collected information/data to achieve the objectives of the project based on research finding.(C5, PLO4)
3. demonstrate competency in written and oral communication skills.(A4, PLO6)
4. display the originality of completed project report using standard format given based on knowledge and information in civil engineering studies. (A5, PLO10)

SUMMARY

1.0 PREPARATION FOR COLLECTION OF DATA (05:15)
Finalize the objectives. Identify the suitable methodology and location/research area to implement the project. List and study the procedure of equipment and tools used, standards and regulations. Determine the agencies or industries to collect the data. Design questionnaire and approve survey question. Prepare the required means of implementing the project such as approval letters from the department.Identify any possible obstacles during the project implementation.

2.0 PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION (05 : 45)
Collection of data. Manage and analyze the information/data collection or product development. Test runs the product. Solve the problem encountered.

3.0 REPORT WRITING AND PROJECT PRESENTATION (05 : 15)
Produce the complete final project report. Summarize all the results or data analysis using suitable forms. Conclude the research finding and recommend suitable suggestion to improve the system. List the references. Prepare and conduct presentation of project/research.
